Centre for Process Pollution and Development (CRISP)

The Center of Research on Pollution and Process Development is promoted by Consorzio Friuli Innovazione to value the specific know-how and expertise of a group of scientists and researchers from the University of Udine, and to make a specialized Center for Environmental Services available to local Industries. CRISP's activities include Environmental Evaluation and Management Procedures as well as Dynamic Olfactometry Analyses.
Environmental Evaluation and Management
Environmental management is a crucial aspect in each organization and company: initially perceived as a source of additional costs or constraints, environmental management is now becoming a proficient tool to enhance competitiveness and a key to success.
Among the voluntary environmental management tools:
- Environmental Management Systems (EMS) identifies proper procedures to manage environmental issues as a whole in a systematic and coherent way; thus aiming at minimization of risks and costs associated to environmental accidents and penalties.
- Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is designed to guarantee objective evaluation of all relevant aspects related to the environmental impact of a product/service and reliable communication of these aspects to the public.
Benefits are many and specifically related to:
- better industrial processes control and reduced use of energy and raw materials
- higher suitability to environmental rules and laws
- reduction of accidents involving responsibility issues
- increased ease of obtaining permissions and authorizations
- increased competitiveness with respect to less dynamic competitors
- improved visibility for customers, Public Authorities and investors.
Thanks to its multidisciplinary staff, CRISP can provide different approaches, techniques and tools for environmental management optimization.
Specifically, the following services are provided:
- Preliminary Environmental Analysis
- analysis of the legal context and identification of the relevant constraints
- identification of main environmental aspects related to production activities, products or services and evaluation of their significance level – life cycle analysis of product/service and environmental impact assessment
- tutorship in planning efficient programs for improved environmental management, environmental communication and training
- design and development of Environmental Management System (ISO 14001, EMAS) and document preparation
- conformity audit, pre-audit and periodical audit for Environmental Management System status check
- development and implementation of integrated systems (quality - environment – safety)
- support for continuous improvement of the Environmental System
- identification of environmental performance indicators to monitor the environmental progress
