The project aims at offering assistance to people with motor or perceptual disabilities in complex indoor environments, particularly in the context of hospitals. The purpose of home automation solutions – to be investigated and implemented in a prototype structure - is to provide useful and easily accessible information directed respectively to: people with physical or perceptual disabilities (e.g. visually impaired), to people with problems of orientation and location in space, to elderly people and so on. Assistance provided by domotic technologies will allow these people to interact safely with the environment and enjoy the services offered. EASYMOB will develop an home automation system based on infrared (IR) transmitters and receivers, able to guide people in such spaces, giving indications about internal logistic, about the presence of any obstacle and about the services offered by the environment. Assistance will be also provided via mobile phones which, thanks to Bluetooth technologies and/or NFC, will receive information and useful maps in a visual and textual language so that understandable for the user.
In order to improve the addressing capabilities for the visually impaired, intelligent tactile-plantar paths will be integrated, supported by LED devices, able to guide people both through the tactile signal and through the infrared device.
Home Automation System will be completed with display information panels to the public.

The project consists of the following actions:

  • Industrial research
    Starting from an initial study on technologies, this phase aims at: designing an infrared digital transmitter and receiver; finding solutions for mobile devices in order to convey information for orientation, location and content distribution; defining of plantar tactile paths as well as of application settings and contextual contents.
  • Experimental development
    The goal of this phase is the development of: equipment prototypes based on infrared transmitters and receivers; the central software for peripheral devices management; led solutions to be integrated in plantar tactile paths; the prototype of a touch screen totem; an embedded software for mobile devices. The final phase of the action is the definition and implementation of a pilot project at the CRO Aviano.
  • Project coordination
    Starting from the definition of the project organization, this action is designed to manage and coordinate the activities and the project, also in administrative and financial terms.
  • Diffusion / Dissemination
    This action consists in the design of the communication plan and communication tools, the organization of events both for the presentation of the project and the final dissemination of results, the participation in public events, the preparation of reports and informative articles.
